It has been over three weeks since we have seen a live game on ESPN. March Madness and Wimbledon championships have been cancelled, while the NBA, MLB, XFL, and the NHL have put their season on hold. As there is no sports going on due to the coronavirus, ESPN has been replaying old games, talking non stop about NFL Free Agency, and old 30 for 30 documentaries to keep up their TV ratings up.
ESPN is not only showing old games, they will be streaming the NBA 2K player tournament, and will be showing the Chicago Bulls “The Last Dance” documentary early for fans to watch. ESPN is using many creative ways to keep up their ratings, but if I were the producer at ESPN, I would choose these top five games of all time to keep up the ratings of the show.
5. Kansas City Chiefs vs Los Angeles Rams (2018)

This game is arguably considered one of the best NFL regular season games in the history of the league. The Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Rams were coming in the game tied with the best record in the league, as the Rams went on to win the game in high scoring action, 54-51. Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and Rams QB Jared Goff showed off their arm, by each throwing over 400 yards and at least throwing four touchdowns in that game. To rewatch a high scoring game with two rising quarterbacks shining under the big lights, would bring in a lot of viewers.
4. Boston Celtics vs Los Angeles Lakers Game 7 (2010 NBA Finals)

As a Boston Celtics fan, this game hurts for me to put this on ESPN, but this game is an all-time classic. A rivalry meeting between the Boston Celtics vs the Los Angeles Lakers competing for an NBA championship. Who could forget Kobe Bryant getting his revenge on the Celtics to win his 5th NBA championship after losing to Boston in 2008 NBA Finals. This was a game that you could tell how bad both teams wanted this championship. To relive the rivalry championship game and to rewatch a memorable game in honor of the late Kobe Bryant could sky rocket the ratings.
3. San Antonio Spurs vs Miami Heat Game 6 (2013 NBA Finals)

The San Antonio Spurs needed one stop to win their 5th NBA Championship, but Miami guard Ray Allen’s three with five seconds left in regulation sent the game to overtime, as the Heat went on to win the game and force a Game 7. The Miami Heat would go on to win game seven, giving Lebron James and the Miami Heat their second championship in a row. This was during the time of the Big Three in Miami with Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh, while the Spurs had Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and a young and upcoming star in Kawhi Leonard. This game would bring in viewers as this is a classic game to watch.
2. Utah Jazz vs Los Angeles Lakers: Kobe’s final game (2016)

Yes, that’s right another Kobe game, Why? Because people love Kobe. Kobe Bryant put on a show in his final NBA game, scoring 60 points in a win over the Utah Jazz. As you know Kobe Bryant died in a helicopter crash this past January, and to re-live Kobe’s final game would bring in so many viewers to the show. Kobe Bryant left the NBA as a legend and icon for the league, many people looked up to him, and many people praised his love for the game. This game would bring in viewers who are looking for happiness during this stressful time.
1. Cleveland Cavaliers vs Golden State Warriors Game 7 (2016 NBA Finals)

This game was considered to be one of the best games in NBA history. The Warriors were leading the Cavaliers 3-1 in the Finals, and all the Warriors had to do was win one more game. The Cavaliers would overcome a 3-1 deficit to take down the 73-9 Warriors to win their first NBA Championship. This game featured a showdown between Lebron James and two time reigning MVP Stephen Curry. This game would bring in the most viewers, because this was considered a possible David and Goliath story. When the Cavaliers were on the brink of eliminating, fought hard to take down the reigning NBA champions. The Warriors would then bring in Kevin Durant the next season, and win two more NBA titles. But to re-live the game would bring back memories, as we all were watching this game on our TV’s that night.
Those would be my top five games to re-play on ESPN. Those games were classics, and were so entertaining to watch back in the day. That would bring lots of viewers, and to keep the ratings up until sports returns.
