After seven seasons, it was a time for a change. The Philadelphia 76ers announced on Monday that they have fired Brett Brown following the Sixers early first round exit in the playoffs. After seven season with the organization, Brown finished with a coaching record of 221-344 with a .391 win percentage.
The 76ers have announced that GM Elton Brand will continue to oversee basketball operations for the Sixers, but lots of changes could still be to come.
My Thoughts
Not surprised by this move at all. This was the writing on the wall, and we saw it coming from a mile away. He’s had 3 good teams in a row that could’ve possibly reached the Eastern Conference Finals or NBA Finals, but they failed to even make it past the second round. It was time for him to go.
He was a great hire, and a good person for the job of rebuilding the Sixers back in 2013. But now with everything set in motion, he failed to take this team to the potential they could reach.
I will be curious to see who they hire as their new head coach, but they need a coach who can lead them to the Finals. I could see Ty Lue or Kenny Atkinson applying for the Sixers head coach job, but time will tell to see who will get the job.
