2020 NBA Free Agency Predictions

The 2020 NBA Free Agency is coming up on November 20th at 6 P.M. After a crazy 2019-2020 NBA season, the NBA is ready to take storm again on December 22nd to start the 72 game regular season. The 2020 Free Agent class is not as intriguing as the 2019 NBA Free Agency class, but there could be lots of moves on the way. So without further a do, here are my predictions for this NBA Free Agency class.

Anthony Davis stays put with the Lakers, signs Big Max contract

The Los Angeles Lakers acquired their star forward in the 2019, and it seemed to pay off. The Lakers won the 2020 NBA title, and I big majority of why they won the title was thanks to Anthony Davis. There is NO WAY, that Anthony Davis will be leaving the Lakers after helping bringing home an NBA title to the city of LA. Davis will be staying put with the Lakers, and will sign a big max contract with the Lakers.

Fred VanVleet gets his money and re-signs with the Raptors

I think the NBA champion Fred VanVleet will stay put in Toronto. He has said on JJ Redick’s that he wants to get paid and I feel like Toronto will give him that contract. The Raptors obviously will be wanting to go after Giannis Antetokounmpo in 2021, but you need a backup up plan incase everything backfires. So I think the Raptors will give VanVleet the max contract, and if Giannis comes to Toronto, they will trade him away in a year in order to keep Lowry and Siakam. If he does not, I could see him get a really good contract from the New York Knicks.

Montrezl Harrell has enough with the Clippers, signs with the Charlotte Hornets

The LA Clippers season ended terribly last year, blowing 3-1 series lead to the Denver Nuggets. Obviously they can’t really bring everyone back, and that guy will most likely be Montrezl Harrell. I expect Harrell to get a big contract deal from a team and I feel like that team will be the Charlotte Hornets. The Hornets are missing that piece, and I feel like that guy they are missing is Montrezl Harrell.

Gordon Hayward opts in to his 34.1 million dollar player option, but gets traded away to the Pacers

Gordon Hayward would be crazy to not opt in to his 34.1 million dollar deal with The Celtics, but he could also be on the move. I could see him being traded to the Indiana Pacers in a deal for Myles Turner or Victor Oladipo. The Celtics will do this to free up some cap space, so they can be able to afford to offer Jayson Tatum the max contract. Hayward has been known for getting hurt a lot, but wherever he goes, he will be a good player and if he stays healthy could get back to being an All-Star.

Lakers spend some cap space and signs Serge Ibaka

After helping bringing Toronto an NBA Championship, Serge Ibaka will look to help bring another title to another team. I feel like the Lakers will spend some cap space and sign Serge Ibaka to a 1-2 year deal. I feel like the Lakers could use Ibaka to the best of his abilities, and I think Ibaka wants to go to a team that will give him a good contract and a chance to win another NBA title. The Raptors just don’t have the cap space to keep Ibaka which is why I think he will be leaving Toronto in the offseason.

Brandon Ingram isn’t going anywhere, signs max contract with the Pelicans

Brandon Ingram is a restricted free agent, but the Pelicans will make sure he is not going anywhere. Ingram will be offered a big max contract to stay in New Orleans as he is apart of a bright future with Zion Williamson and the Pelicans organization. Ingram had a breakout year last season, and will be on the rise once again to be a potential superstar.

Danilo Gallinari joins the reigning Eastern Conference Champions, the Miami Heat

The Miami Heat has been eying this guy all season last season. And I think that they will end up getting him. Gallinari will leave Oklahoma City Thunder to sign with the Miami Heat as the Heat will add some more shooters to their roster. OKC is looking to build for the future, which is why they will be parting ways with a top scorer.

Demar Derozan will stay with the Spurs……for now

Demar Derozan will stay with the San Antonio Spurs for right now. There has been rumors that he is wanting out of San Antonio, but I feel like he will opt in to his contract and will be traded away at some point. I don’t really know where he could get ended up on, but it could be possibly that he stays in San Antonio and gets traded away somewhere else.

Andre Drummond doesn’t want to opt out of big contract, will deal with being on the Cavaliers a little longer

Andre Drummond will stay put in Cleveland as he is not wanting to get out of that $28 million dollar deal. I don’t think he will stay on Cleveland for his whole career, but I think that he will be returning to the Cavaliers this upcoming season. He is a great rebounder and averages a double-double every game. If he doesn’t opt in to his contract, I think he could be on his way to join the Dallas Mavericks.

Hassan Whiteside signs a one year deal with the New York Knicks

Hassan Whiteside will get a big one year deal to play on a bad basketball team. With big stars coming in the 2021 free agency draft, the Knicks will be looking to have Hassan Whiteside play on their team for a HUGE contract. I am looking at the same situation like what they did with Marcus Morris. They will trade him away for contender or keep him just to pay him.

Davis Bertans will receive offers, but will stay with the Wizards

Davis Bertans was one of the best players on the Wizards last year, and with the Wizards still looking to be a contender, they will give Bertans a good contract offer this off season. Bertans is a good outside shooter that fits in nicely on any NBA roster.

LA Clippers and Head Coach Doc Rivers part ways

There is going to be a new head coach for the Los Angeles Clippers next season! After seven season with the organization, Head Coach Doc Rivers and the Los Angeles Clippers have decided to part ways. Things for the Clippers ended in disappointment, after losing to the Denver Nuggets in the second round of the playoffs after leading 3-1 in the series. After acquiring star players in the 2019 offseason like Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, the Clippers were expected to be title contenders. Rivers went from being a title contending coach to fired in one season.

In Rivers seven seasons with the Clippers, LA could not get past the Conference semi-finals. While the team had good success wise in the regular season under Rivers, the team could never get it together in the playoffs. In River’s time in LA, his team went 356-208. The team will now be looking for a new head coach, as Rivers could be picked up as a new head coach somewhere.

My Thoughts

I am not really surprised by this. I think it was time for the Clippers to move on from Rivers. He has spent seven years with the Clippers, and the Clippers could not make it past the second round. That is very disappointing considering the teams he has had on the Clippers. I was surprised that they didn’t fire him two years ago when the Clippers didn’t make the playoffs in the post Chris Paul-Blake Griffin era. But they held on to him, he coached a team with no All-Stars to the playoffs, and the next year after he had a very good title contending team.

I don’t think he would’ve been fired if they made it to the Western Conference Finals, but the Clippers choked and he got fired for it. Doc Rivers doesn’t get 100% the blame, because the players blew multiple double digit leads in the playoffs, but it is how it works in the NBA.

I expect Rivers to be hired somewhere I could definitely see someone picking Rivers up as a Head Coach. I don’t know who the Clippers will hire as a coach, I will be really curious to see who the Clippers will want coaching their team for a potential Finals run next season.

Chicago Bulls hire Billy Donovan as new Head Coach

The Chicago Bulls have found Jim Boylen’s replacement. The Chicago Bulls have announced the hiring of new head coach, Billy Donovan. Donovan replaces Jim Boylen who was fired after going 39-84 without making a single playoff appearance.

Billy Donovan parted ways with the Oklahoma City Thunder after spending five years with the organization. Donovan recently finished third in the NBA Coach of the Year voting after leading the Thunder to the playoffs when having a 0.2% chance to make the playoffs at the beginning of the year. Donovan will look to lead the Chicago Bulls back to the NBA Playoffs and look to develop star players like Zach Lavine and Coby White.

My Thoughts

This was a great hire for the Chicago Bulls!

Billy Donovan is one of the best coaches in the NBA in my opinion. He was the Florida mens basketball head coach and lead them to 2 national titles. Donovan I think can help turn this Bulls organization around. There was a lot of players that just did not like Jim Boylen as the head coach, and I feel like Donovan they will want to play hard and want to get some wins.

I expect Zach Lavine to really shine in his offense. He could be an All-Star this upcoming season, but I do think he also needs another piece with him to make this team a playoff team.

Giants RB Saquon Barkley tears his ACL in right knee, will miss reminder of the season

Some bad news coming out of the Giants organization. New York Giants star running back Saquon Barkley has torn his ACL in his right knee and will miss the remainder of the season. Barkley suffered the injury in the 17-13 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday, as the Giants fell to 0-2 on the season.

This is a major blow to the New York Giants as one of their star players. will miss the remainder of the season. The Giants will now be looking for a new running back to fill in Barkley’s shoes.

My Thoughts

This has to hurt for Giants fans.

The Giants were hoping this would be the year that things could turn around for them with QB Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley leading the way. Now things are going to be a lot tougher. Barkley is one of the top running backs in the NFL, and can be such a top stop on the drive. Now the Giants will have to move on from Barkley and will have to bring in a new running back.

The chances for the Giants to make the playoffs are once again slimmer and slimmer.

Brooklyn Nets hire former NBA MVP Steve Nash as new head coach

The Brooklyn Nets have found their new head coach. Hall of Fame point guard Steve Nash has been hired as the new head coach of the Brooklyn Nets. Steve Nash spent 18 seasons in the NBA playing for the Mavericks, the Suns, and the Lakers. Nash is an 8 time All-Star, two NBA MVP, and is third on the All-Time NBA assists awards.

After retiring in 2015, Nash became a consultant for the Golden State Warriors winning two NBA titles before getting the call for his first coaching job with the Nets. With Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and others returning back healthy next season, the Nets could be one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference next year.

My Thoughts

Wow……not the guy I was expected to see as new head coach for the Nets.

I mean don’t get me wrong Steve Nash was a great basketball player, but I don’t think that this is the right hire for this team. Nash does not have coaching experience, and the Nets are bringing him to coach a title contending team. I feel like they should’ve brought in a guy with coaching experience like Nate McMillan, Mark Jackson, Ty Lue, or even just to bring back their assistant coach Jacque Vaughn to coach the team.

I wouldn’t have mind if Nash was hired as an assistant coach, or even to be the head coach somewhere else like the Pelicans or the Bulls. But to bring him to the Nets with high goals was not the best move the Nets could make. We all saw what happened when they hired Jason Kidd as their head coach a week after he retired, and things went into a dumpster fire.

I hope things do work out for Steve Nash, but this is either going to work or fail miserably.

Buccaneers sign RB Leonard Fournette

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have picked another weapon to their powerful offense. Running Back Leonard Fournette has signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after being waived by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots were in the running to pick up the running back, but Fournette decided to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with their new star quarterback Tom Brady.

My Thoughts

I was really hoping that the New England Patriots were going to pick him up, but things didn’t turn out that way. The Buccaneers picked up another weapon to their team. They have a very powerful offensive now with Tom Brady leading the way. With Mike Evans, Rob Gronkowski, LeSean McCoy, Leonard Fournette, is there anyone that could slow down this team when healthy?

The NFL season is coming up soon!

Philadelphia 76ers fire head coach Brett Brown

After seven seasons, it was a time for a change. The Philadelphia 76ers announced on Monday that they have fired Brett Brown following the Sixers early first round exit in the playoffs. After seven season with the organization, Brown finished with a coaching record of 221-344 with a .391 win percentage.

The 76ers have announced that GM Elton Brand will continue to oversee basketball operations for the Sixers, but lots of changes could still be to come.

My Thoughts

Not surprised by this move at all. This was the writing on the wall, and we saw it coming from a mile away. He’s had 3 good teams in a row that could’ve possibly reached the Eastern Conference Finals or NBA Finals, but they failed to even make it past the second round. It was time for him to go.

He was a great hire, and a good person for the job of rebuilding the Sixers back in 2013. But now with everything set in motion, he failed to take this team to the potential they could reach.

I will be curious to see who they hire as their new head coach, but they need a coach who can lead them to the Finals. I could see Ty Lue or Kenny Atkinson applying for the Sixers head coach job, but time will tell to see who will get the job.

Ravens release safety Earl Thomas after on-field altercation

Earl Thomas is now up for grabs in free agency. The Baltimore Ravens have released safety Earl Thomas after an on-field altercation with his teammate Chuck Clark. Thomas has been causing problems to the Ravens with the way his actions have been at training camp and team workouts.

Thomas is a seven time Pro Bowler and a Super Bowl champion with the Seattle Seahawks. The question will now be “How will the Ravens do without their top safety?” and “Where will Earl Thomas go next?”

My Thoughts

I was surprised that the Ravens did not trade away Earl Thomas, but I think that the Ravens wanted to get rid of him early so they didn’t have to affect the team’s chemistry and deal with the drama. I don’t know if Earl Thomas will get picked up any where else after this altercation. He has a really good talent, but it seems like he can be a locker room cancer or on the field problem. Just like Antonio Brown, he is a guy with a really good talent, but the drama that went on with him with the Raiders and the Patriots is a reason why he is not on an NFL roster.

I will be curious to see if Earl Thomas gets picked up by anyone!

What the Sixers need to this off-season to restart “The Process”

Going into the 2019-20 season, the Philadelphia 76ers were considered one of the favorites coming out of the Eastern Conference. Despite losing dynamic scorers Jimmy Butler and JJ Redick, the Sixers still had a good looking team heading into the season. With Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons running the show, Tobias Harris returning, and Al Horford and Josh Richardson coming in with a fresh start, the Sixers were ready to roll. Well things didn’t end well for the Sixers.

The Philadelphia 76ers had a disappointing season finishing sixth in the Eastern Conference with a 43-30 record. Ben Simmons ended getting a season ending knee injury in the last few games in the regular season. And they just got swept out of the first round by the rivals, the Boston Celtics. Very Ugly end.

After this disastrous season, things need to change and there has to be A LOT of changes this off season. Here is what I think the Sixers need to do to “restart” the Process.

  1. FIRE BRETT BROWN

It’s time to let this guy go. Brett Brown has been the head coach for the Philadelphia 76ers for the past seven seasons, and the Sixers have not reached the potential that they were made for. In 2018, they had a chance to be in the Eastern Conference Finals, but blew their chances against a star-less Celtics in the second round. In 2019, they lost to the Toronto Raptors in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semi finals. And in 2020, with high hopes for a team, they got swept in the first round. The guy was a great hire for “The Process”, but he is not a good fit for this team anymore. He has a talented roster, but his coaching decisions have made the Sixers not the team they are today. Brett Brown NEEDS to go.

2. TRADE AWAY AL HORFORD, TOBIAS HARRIS, OR BOTH

Tobias Harris signed a 5 year/$180 million dollar deal to return to the Sixers last off-season. Al Horford signed a 4 year/$109 million dollar deal to leave the Boston Celtics and join the Philadelphia 76ers. Harris averaged around 15 points per game in the playoffs, while Horford averaged 7 points per game. These guys are being paid so much money to contribute solid numbers for the team, and they are pouring in these numbers. They can both be solid players on some nights, but they are guys who are consistent. Both of the guys aren’t shooters, and it is something this team lacks of. You need to get rid of one of these guys to get a solid shooter in return or money to sign a good role player in the off season.

3. KEEP JOEL EMBIID AND BEN SIMMONS FOR JUST A LITTLE BIT LONGER

There is no need to split these guys up, especially now. They haven’t been together long enough, and each year I feel like they are figuring themselves out. I feel like under the right coaching these guys can possibly get to the way they want to play together. I do think that they both have a lot of things to work on like Simmons shooting outside shots, and Embiid coming ready to play every game. But you need to keep them together a little longer as they are developing more of their game. If things don’t change in 2-4 seasons, its time to split them up. BUT NOW IS NOT THE TIME.

4. SIGN OR TRADE FOR THEIR SOME SHOOTERS

The Sixers struggled from the outside this season, and the playoffs which is a big reason why they had the season they had this year. You could really tell the Sixers really missed having Jimmy Butler and JJ Redick as they were guys that could knock down shots when needed. The Sixers couldn’t buy a bucket from the outside with Shake Milton and Matisse Thybulle taking the 3 point shot. They need some shooting, because besides pounding the ball inside to Embiid, the Sixers have no good offense.

The Sixers have a lot to think about this off season, and we are going to have to wait and see how this offseason will go.

Lakers guard Rajon Rondo is active for Game 3 against the Trailblazers

Lakers guard Rajon Rondo will be active tonight for Game 3 of their playoff series vs the Portland Trailblazers. Rondo suffered a fractured right thumb in a July Lakers practice that caused him to leave the bubble to undergo surgery. After being expected to sit out 6-8 weeks with the broken thumb, Rondo is back and will be active for Game 3.

My Thoughts

Good news for Lakers fans. Rondo when focused is a great leader and always plays well in the playoffs. If he happens to get a lot of minutes, you could see him guarding Damian Lillard or CJ McCollum for a majority of the game. He could make a difference for the Lakers by slowing down Portland’s two hot guards, who the Lakers defense has had no answer to.

Could he be the missing piece for the Lakers struggles?
